Health Fund Rebates
If you belong to a private health fund, you may be able to claim a rebate for psychological services. The rebate provided varies according to your health fund and your level of cover.
Psychology SA has HICAPS facilities, so with your health fund card we can organise your rebate at the time of the consultation. If you would like to know the amount of rebate prior to your first session please contact your health fund directly.
Medicare offers a rebate for some psychological services.
If you wish to claim a rebate through Medicare, you will need a referral letter and a Mental Health Care Plan from your General Practitioner (GP). Start by making an appointment with your GP to discuss your issues and concerns. Most GP’s will prefer you book a longer appointment time so that they have enough time to develop a care plan with you. Your GP will give you a Mental Health Care plan and referral letter which enables you to access the Medicare rebate. Please bring these along to your first appointment. Once a mental health plan is completed you can access a rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. Please note, you are entitled to choose the psychologist or clinical psychologist you want to treat you.
